Makana Pono: Employee Giving Program
Melenia has been part of the Islands Hospice Team for almost 9 years. As a hospice aide she performs direct patient care for terminally ill patients in their home environment by providing assistance in their daily living and personal hygiene.
Melenia has selected River of Life Mission as her $5,000 award recipient, an organization dedicated to serving the basic needs of the homeless population. By providing food, clothing, and hygiene services to those in need, River of Life is able to build relationships and gain trust from the people they serve.
Melenia is a supporter of River of Life’s mission and commitment to serving the community. She has been observing their activities for the past two years and is interested in the services that are offered.
With over 35 years in Chinatown, River of Life Mission has distributed more than 12 million meals to thousands of individuals experiencing homelessness. The organization recently announced plans to relocate its public feeding operation from Chinatown to several hubs across Oahu, and incorporate social services such as psychiatric care. In the meantime, River of Life will continue distributing food boxes to elderly residents in Chinatown.
Islands Hospice and River of Life both serve others with dignity and compassionate care, and we are pleased to recognize Melenia and the ongoing impact that River of Life has on our community.
