Since 2019, the Islands Hospice Makana Pono award has enabled our company to support causes that are near and dear to the hearts of our employees. We are pleased to announce that Pauahi R. is our newest Makana Pono awardee. Pauahi has been part of the Islands Hospice Maui team for over five years as a community liaison, providing outstanding support and resources to patients and their families during their transition to end-of-life care. As our Makana Pono awardee, Pauahi has chosen Grace Church Maui as her $5,000 award recipient.

Grace Church Maui supports more than 300 foster children in Maui County by partnering with Royal Family KIDS, a faith-based organization under For The Children. Together, they offer mentoring and a five-day summer camp, where foster children participate in non-competitive games, arts and crafts and relationship building activities.

Beyond youth-focused programs, Grace Church Maui provides support to local families and elders, especially during crises. During the Lahaina wildfires in August 2023, the church collected donations of food and basic necessities to assist those affected. The church's outreach also extends globally, with members assisting in the construction of a training center in Uganda.

Grace Church Maui has played an important role in Pauahi and her family's life for nearly 25 years. Originally participating in the church's hula ministry, Pauahi has since become more involved and now also volunteers at the food bank and participates in other activities.

Pauahi's choice of Grace Church Maui for Makana Pono shows her deep commitment to her community, which is also evident from her work at Islands Hospice.

“I am thankful and blessed to be part of a team that is committed to serving our kupuna and Maui community with aloha,” said Pauahi.
